Speaking as an ex RC I would say no. My generation of RC's were ruled with a rod of iron, we knew nothing of the workings of the organisation we were expected to simply believe whatever the priest said. Back in the 1940's I grew up believing that Priest Nuns bishops etc did not have the same bodily function as we lesser mortals, and whatever they said was true. Today RC's have access to a Bible, my generation did not, in-fact, not only could not possess one but we were not allowed to read one. As a wee boy I once asked a priest why this should be the case and he turned to me with a cigarette dangling from his mouth and said, "Anything you want to know just ask me". God not only took me out of Rome he took Rome out of me.
